FROM BARNSTAPLE TO CHELSEA THE "EASY" WAY
Updated: Sep 20, 2020
Wow, what a month.... After only opening our shop on Boutport Street a few weeks ago, we shut the doors for a day and rushed off to London.
We are proud to announce that our founder Nick Lock (and his pies) were one of the winners of the the 2018 Stelios Award for Disabled Entrepreneurs in the UK.
The Stelios Award is a business award run in partnership with the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation. (Mr Easy-jet to you and me)
It recognises the exceptional spirit and business ability of disabled entrepreneurs.
The Judges were particularly impressed with our Company ethos, not only for being the World's First Certified Palm Oil Free Bakery, but also for offering employment opportunities to everyone regardless of disability. As most, if not all of our Staff identify as having a disability of some form or another (including the Boss)
As for the Pies, well some thought it might be bribery, appealing to the Judge's hearts through their stomachs, but what else does a Bakery do...?
We live to feed people and Sir Stelios loved our Pies..
We made a lot of good friends that night and would encourage anyone with a disability and a great idea to apply..
You can watch a video of all this Years Finalists and Winners below.
Our clip was filmed in one take, as Nick was going down with pneumonia but this amazing man finished filming and only then, called an ambulance to stretcher him off to hospital. Talk about the show must go on...
He bounced back though and swapped North Devon District Hospital for London's Chelsea Royal Hospital and an award ceremony , to receive his cheque for £10000.
